Geely has achieved a major milestone in China’s fast-evolving electric vehicle market, as the Geely Xingyuan has officially been crowned the best-selling passenger New Energy Vehicle (NEV) in China for the full year of 2025. Building on its strong momentum from the first half of the year, the compact electric hatchback finished 2025 at the top of the sales charts with an impressive 465,775 units sold.
Xingyuan's achievement places it ahead of several high-profile competitors. The Wuling Hongguang Mini EV secured second place with 435,599 units, while the Tesla Model Y followed closely in third with 425,337 units, underscoring the intense competition within China’s NEV segment.
BYD maintained a dominant presence across the rankings, with multiple models featuring in the top ten. The BYD Qin Plus, Seagull, and Qin L claimed fourth, fifth, and sixth positions with sales of 387,315, 310,956, and 264,671 units, respectively. Additional strong performers included the Xiaomi SU7 in seventh place with 258,164 units, the BYD Seal 06 in eighth with 220,317 units, the Tesla Model 3 in ninth with 200,361 units, and the BYD Song Plus rounding out the top ten at 200,276 units. Notably, every model in the top ten exceeded 200,000 units in annual sales, highlighting the scale and maturity of China’s NEV market.
Beyond established manufacturers, emerging players also made their mark. Models such as the Xpeng Mona M03 and the Li Auto L6 featured prominently in the top 20, reflecting growing consumer confidence in new-generation Chinese EV brands. Xiaomi’s expanding EV portfolio also continued to gain traction, with both its sedan and SUV models achieving strong sales volumes.
Another Geely model, the Geely Galaxy Panda, also earned a spot in the top 20, reinforcing Geely’s broad appeal across multiple EV segments.
A key factor behind the Xingyuan’s success is its strong value proposition. In China, the model is priced from CNY 69,800 (approximately RM40,639), making it one of the most accessible NEVs on the market. Buyers can choose between two powertrain configurations, with the top variant featuring a rear-wheel-drive motor producing 114 hp (85 kW) and 150 Nm of torque, paired with a 40.16 kWh battery offering up to 410 km of CLTC-rated range.
The Xingyuan’s global relevance is further highlighted by its role as the donor model for Malaysia’s most affordable EV, the Proton e.MAS 5. In Malaysia, the Proton e.MAS 5 is offered at RM59,800 for the Prime variant (RM56,800 with rebates), while the Premium variant is priced at RM72,800 (RM69,800 with rebates), bringing proven Chinese EV technology to a wider Southeast Asian audience.
With its combination of affordability, practical range, and mass-market appeal, the Geely Xingyuan’s 2025 sales crown underscores both Geely’s growing influence and the accelerating adoption of electric vehicles in China and beyond.
