Following its debut in Thailand and the United Kingdom, Indonesia has now become the latest right-hand-drive (RHD) market to welcome the Jaecoo J5 EV. This marks another significant milestone for the brand as it strengthens its presence in the global electric vehicle (EV) landscape.
Two variants of the B-segment electric SUV have been launched in Indonesia, the Standard and Premium, priced from IDR 249.9 million (RM62,949) and IDR 299.9 million (RM75,544) respectively. These introductory prices are part of an early-bird promotion, available exclusively to the first 1,000 customers.
Under the hood, both variants share the same powertrain configuration, featuring a 60.9-kWh battery pack capable of delivering up to 461 km of range based on NEDC standards. The J5 EV’s single front-mounted electric motor produces 208 hp (155 kW) and 288 Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0–100 km/h in just 7.3 seconds.
Charging performance is equally impressive, with AC and DC fast-charging support. The latter enables a 30%–80% charge in just 28 minutes at a maximum rate of 130 kW. The J5 EV also comes equipped with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability at 3.3 kW, turning the vehicle into a portable power source for external devices.
Design-wise, the Indonesian-spec J5 EV mirrors its Thai counterpart with a grille-less front fascia, rectangular LED headlamps, slim LED taillights, and 18-inch aero-optimised alloy wheels. The SUV is offered in four colours, Forest Green, Jet Black, Pristine White, and Ivory Gray. Measuring 4,380 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, and 1,650 mm tall, with a 2,620 mm wheelbase, the J5 EV competes directly with models like the MG S5 EV, BYD Atto 2, and Chery Omoda E5.
Inside, the J5 EV continues Jaecoo’s focus on comfort and technology. Highlights include a 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen, 8-inch digital meter cluster, ventilated synthetic leather seats, multi-colour ambient lighting, eight-speaker sound system, and a powered sunroof, all features that position it strongly in the premium compact EV segment.
While Thailand and Indonesia have already welcomed the fully electric J5, Malaysia is expected to receive only the ICE version of the J5 by the end of this year, with an estimated price of around RM120,000.
