Perodua has officially launched its first-ever battery electric vehicle, the QV-E, a milestone moment for Malaysia’s automotive industry and a major step toward building a strong, sustainable EV ecosystem. Priced at RM80,000 without insurance and excluding the battery, the QV-E represents the result of years of local innovation and engineering under the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who officiated the launch, praised Perodua’s achievement and highlighted the significance of local expertise in bringing the EV project to life. The QV-E short for “quest for visionary electric vehicle” was developed with an investment of RM800 million and the involvement of more than 100 Malaysian experts, reinforcing the nation’s growing capability in advanced automotive technology.
He noted that Perodua’s appointment as the national leader for EV ecosystem development has been fully justified with the successful rollout of its first battery-powered model, adding that the launch demonstrates the country’s readiness to compete in the global EV landscape.
The Perodua QV-E arrives with a strong performance package, offering a 150 kW motor and 285 Nm of torque in a front-wheel-drive setup. With a top speed of 165 km/h and a 52.5 kWh CATL battery, the hatchback delivers an impressive NEDC-rated range of 445 km, making it well-suited for both city commutes and longer journeys.
Three driving modes Eco, Normal, and Sport allow drivers to tailor their experience to road conditions and personal preference. In Sport mode, the QV-E offers quick, responsive acceleration and confident handling, characteristics that stand out for a vehicle in its segment.
Early test drives at the Sepang International Circuit highlighted the car’s stability and smooth cornering performance, showcasing Perodua’s commitment to engineering a capable and enjoyable electric driving experience.
Inside, the QV-E emphasizes comfort and convenience with semi-leather electrically adjustable seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a digital rear-view mirror that can seamlessly transition between digital and conventional views. The vehicle also incorporates an adjustable Regeneration Level system, enabling efficient energy recovery and supporting a smoother, more effortless driving style, especially useful for daily stop-and-go traffic.
The steering system offers Comfort, Sport, and Auto modes, ensuring drivers have precise control tailored to different driving environments. Combined with its thoughtful cabin features, the QV-E delivers an elevated experience that blends practicality with modern sophistication.
The launch of the QV-E signifies a bold new chapter for Perodua and for Malaysia’s EV ambitions. With its competitive pricing, strong performance, and locally developed capabilities, the QV-E positions itself as an ideal entry point for Malaysians transitioning to electric mobility.
As Perodua’s inaugural EV hits the market, it not only showcases the company’s engineering strength but also reflects Malaysia’s commitment to advancing its electric vehicle ecosystem, one that supports innovation, sustainability, and future-ready mobility solutions.
