Proton’s accelerated push into electric mobility is showing remarkable results, with its New Energy & Technology subsidiary (PRO-NET) continuing to lead Malaysia’s EV market in 2025. Central to this momentum is the strong consumer acceptance of the Proton e.MAS EV sub-brand, which is rapidly reshaping the country’s electric vehicle landscape.
The Proton e.MAS 7 EV C-SUV, in particular, remains a standout performer. As of the end of October 2025, the model has achieved an impressive 7,413 units sold, with 6,954 units delivered across Malaysia and 459 units exported to international markets. This consistent growth has enabled the e.MAS 7 to secure its title as Malaysia’s best-selling EV for 10 consecutive months, reflecting sustained consumer trust in Proton’s EV engineering, value proposition, and nationwide support ecosystem.
Building on this success, PRO-NET is also witnessing substantial early traction for its latest addition, the Proton e.MAS 5 entry-level EV hatchback. Launched just under two weeks ago, the model has already garnered over 10,000 bookings nationwide, signalling strong demand within Malaysia’s rapidly expanding EV segment.
According to PRO-NET CEO Zhang Jiang, the overwhelming response underscores a shifting market mindset. “We are truly humbled by the continued support Malaysians have shown towards both the Proton e.MAS 7 and now, the Proton e.MAS 5 as well,” he shared. He further reaffirmed PRO-NET’s commitment to its core mission of “making electric mobility more accessible and reliable” for all Malaysians, positioning Proton as a key player in the national EV transition.
Dealer insights provide deeper clarity on consumer behaviour. A significant portion of e.MAS 5 buyers are working professionals looking for an economical and dependable daily vehicle. Many of them are also taking advantage of PRO-NET’s Power Trade-In programme, which offers an additional RM1,000 rebate for customers trading in their existing vehicles. At the same time, the model is gaining notable interest from households seeking a second car and an increasing number of first-time car buyers drawn to its affordability and practical electric range.
This shift reflects a broader trend among Malaysian consumers, an increasing preference for sustainable, cost-effective mobility solutions that do not compromise on functionality or reliability. The Proton e.MAS 5 aligns strongly with these expectations. Initially priced at RM59,800 (Prime) and RM72,800 (Premium), both variants are currently available at a RM3,000 rebate until December 31, bringing prices down to RM56,800 and RM69,800 respectively. This strategic pricing has undoubtedly contributed to the surge in bookings.
As Malaysia accelerates its transition toward electrified transportation, Proton’s e.MAS lineup is emerging as a driving force behind the country’s growing EV adoption. The combination of strong sales performance, competitive pricing, and increasing customer confidence places PRO-NET in a pivotal position to shape the future of electric mobility in Malaysia.
With momentum building steadily and consumer interest showing no signs of slowing, the Proton e.MAS brand is well on its way to becoming a cornerstone of Malaysia’s next-generation automotive landscape.
